Choosing the best big bands from elementary, middle, and high schools from around the nation!
This wonderful event features performances from outstanding elementary, middle, and high-school bands active in every corner of Japan, including entertaining local bands from Hamamatsu. In Japan, jazz is enjoyed by an ever-expanding age group, and this festival is held with the aim of helping student jazz here in Hamamatsu to shine even brighter.
Family Jazz Concert
Sunday October 19, 14:00 - Create Hamamatsu / Hall
This family event was inaugurated in commemoration of the 20th Anniversary of Hamamatsu Jazz Week. Hirotaka Nakagawa (vocals) composer of "The kids live in the world," a song found in childnen's textbooks, joins forces with jazz adventurer Makoto Oka to perform Nakagawa's well-known chldren's songs, "Rainbow," "To be a friend," and "My first step," With picture books, dancing, magic tricks and jokes, "My first jazz" is non-stop fun! This year "My first jazz" gets an added boost from "Keropons," a duo popular with children featuring Akiko Hirata and Yuko Masuda, former leader of the "Toraya Hat Shop" group with Hirotaka Nakagawa.

Yamaha Jazz Festival

The Yamaha Jazz Festival is renowned as a unique event among the many jazz festivals held in Japan. Themed around the concept of offering a venue for interacting with great jazz musicians and their compositions, this festival offers many opportunities for the up and coming jazz musicians who will take jazz into the future to meet the veterans who can convey to them the true soul of jazz. Established with the goal of providing encounters you have only have here in Hamamatsu, this year the Yamaha Jazz Festival features Geila Zilka, a jazz singer sure to entrance listeners with her soulful vocals, Terumasa Hino, a trumpet player representing Japan around the globe, and Big Phat Band, a world-class big band from the United States with superb power and performance technique.
